At one time I walked 4 miles every day. It was pure stress release. I didn’t lose any weight from walking, but I didn’t gain any either. It felt good. I couldn’t wait to get out there. It felt like a freedom at the time.
Thing was, I had a great mile section to walk around where I lived. I don’t live there anymore. Plus, I have a yellow 4Wheeler that will take me anywhere I want to go. I need new tires. It’s taken me a lot of places I could have walked!
In my mind, doing chores around our place is my work out. In reality it’s not enough.
Riding seems like a work out, but alot of riders have extra weight not doing them any good. Even professional riders aren’t all in great shape. Riding does help, but I don’t do enough of it on a regular basis.
Fact of the matter is I need to lose the extra stuff I’m carrying around. I want to be healthy to the end and then get run over by a bus or something quick!
So, it boils down to, I am what I eat.
Like everyone else I’ve tried to change my eating habits a lot of times. It works for awhile and then it’s right back where I started. Now I know it’s that Resistance thing kicking in.
I’m on it! I’m committed!
The Zone
…the key to a longer, better life is not some magic pill or potion. It is a powerful hormone produced by your diet called insulin. My research showed that if you were able to keep insulin levels within a certain zone-not too high and not too low-you could dramatically improve your health and prevent a wide range of diseases. What’s more, you could also make your body start using fat for energy, thus allowing you to lose excess body fat without feeling hungry!
So how do you begin to regulate your insulin levels and begin the journey to better health? Again, I found that the answer was simple: by eating the right combination of foods at every meal. Essentially, you need to start treating the Zone diet as a drug. Once you start taking this drug, you will automatically achieve:
- Permanent loss of excess body fat
- Dramatic reduction in the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer
- Improved mental and physical performance
- A longer life
A Week In The Zone
Barry Sears, PH. D.
Mr. Sears has written several books since this one, but they all have the same message; keep your insulin levels in the right zone by eating a protein, a carbohydrate, and a fat in each meal or snack. He’s great at explaining it all and if you are interested you can read his book.
So, here’s the problem.
I have every pound I’ve ever gained! Never been one of those women who could drop five pounds by not eating for a few days. Maybe it’s because of my 5’0″ frame or maybe not.
Always considered myself active. Maybe I’ve been fooling me!
All the excuses in the world doesn’t hide the fact from me that I need to lose weight. I have a letter from my doctor that puts that in writing. She didn’t say how much, just that it would improve my blood test scores, but I know 20 pounds lighter is just about where I need to be.
I’m 5’0″ tall people! I have tiny little skinny bones so I can’t even cry “big bones!”
So there, the problem is I need to lose 20 pounds of ugly fat fast!
So, here’s the plan.
The Zone way of eating really works for me. I don’t get hungry and I don’t have sugar cravings like I do when I’m going crazy eating sweets and breads (grains). I try to eat this way always but my back sliding gets waaaay out of control and here I am.
Who is it that says, “Tryin’ is Lyin’!”? That’s me. Time to quit lyin’!
It’s not that hard. It takes some planning ahead. It takes some big time habit changes.
-
Get a starting weight and decide how much weight loss is needed
- Evaluate current eating habits
- Identify 12 habits to form or redirect
- Devise a plan for each habit
- Work on one habit per week until you’ve got it going
- Do not look back. Do not argue with yourself. Just do it! Every minute, hour, day!
- Make it your life. If you see it as temporary, don’t do it. Start over.
I’m ready!
I’m taking off!
